Suction-assisted lipectomy, liposuction or body-contouring are different names for similar methods of removing excessive fatty deposits in localized ares of the body. The most common areas needing assistance are the abdomen, waist, thighs, hips, neck and knees.

It is important to understand that liposuction is not intended to be a substitute for weight loss or a treatment for obesity, but it is an excellent way to re-shape parts of the body which do not respond to diet and exercise.

The procedure is performed as an out-patient surgery taking an average of one to three hours, depending upon the number of areas being treated. A tiny incision is made through which a small tubular device called a cannula is inserted. The fat is dislodged and suctioned out of the body through the cannula tubing.

Following the procedure, you will be fitted in a snug elastic body garment that should be worn for a few weeks which will help to minimize the swelling. Recovery time will vary depending upon the number of areas treated, but most patients may return to work after a few days.
